St. Lucia Creole Day Festival 2025 (Jounen Kweyol)

It goes without saying that Saint Lucia is a country not short of outstanding beauty and unique heritage. A former British colony that was in fact also a French colony before becoming independent from Britain in 1967. The control of St. Lucia could almost be said to be part of a tug and war match between the French and the British, as control of St. Lucia switched between the two countries fourteen times, seven times for the French and Seven times for the British. As a result of this St. Lucia is now a country of mixed culture, French, British, African and Caribbean. The traditions of each of these countries are now celebrated each year in the month of October as part of Creole Heritage Month.  Creole Day in St Lucia  is celebrated on the last Sunday of October. It is a holiday loved by just about everyone that lives on the Island of Saint Lucia.

So What is Jounen Kwéyòl and when Is It?

It is a month to celebrate the mixed culture of the Island along with the French/African dialect known on the island as Kwéyòll.  The entire Island of Saint Lucia embraces their culture and spend time reflecting on the importance of protecting the heritage of St. Lucia. The holiday has a great party atmosphere with plenty of music, dancing, drinking and lots of food. The headline event of heritage month is Jounen Kwéyòl celebrated on the closest Sunday to the 28th of October each year.
Creole Day in Saint Lucia (also known as Jounen Kweyo) is simply unique, inspiring and even educational. Each year the island is split into four groups, a group for each culture on the Island, each group then host events for the Creole Day festivities. What Should You Expect at Jounen Kweyol

In the week leading up to Creole Day, you can expect to see amazing street festivals, parades, Tambo rhythms and a whole host of musical events throughout the Island.  A celebration of culture and festivities is not complete without some mouth-watering cuisine and the food is one of the main attractions of Jounen Kweyol it is outstanding. Whilst the food is named creole it differs from cuisines named the same on other Caribbean islands because of French influence that goes into the food. The ingredients for the food are all locally sourced and prepared using cooking techniques that are unique to the Island of St Lucia. As you enjoy the stories told by the locals you can really get to grips with the dynamics of the different cultures and ethnic groups that reside on the Island, and you can see how much the Island and its heritage means to each and every one of them.  You can dance the night away to music from different cultures and really enjoy the exotic blend.

Recently used SN Travel for the second time to help us with our annual holiday The booking process with Laura was great as always but everything after that was very poor. The hotel we stayed at was in the middle of a major upgrade with work starting early in the morning and lasting all day. It was noisy and dusty and not how I want to spend my holiday. The work was right outside our room and all round the swimming pool, see photos. Whilst I fully understand that this is not the fault of SN Travel other holiday makers had been warned and either moved to other buildings on the complex or changed hotels. Either SN Travel decided not to tell us this or they are not very well informed by their local agent. Either way you should question why you need to use them rather than go direct to the hotel or book online Our transfer from the airport, which they organised, was also a shambles but again they are taking no responsibility for that either. Make your own judgement as to whether you want to use this company, I think there are many better ones out there. We certainly won’t ever use them again

Nadeene is amazing to deal with. Not like most other travel agents who fob you off just to take your money. She genuinely makes an effort to cater to your specific needs. I highly recommend booking with SN Travel & Nadeene especially.

Sntravel exceeded the dream. We recently had 78 passengers in our group who booked with SNTravel to travel to Antigua for a 60th birthday staying at St James's Club and other parts of the island. Yvonne made the dream become the reality, dilligently working to accommodate everyone's need. An exceptional job and everyone has said until the next time. Thank Andrew & Dawn

My recent travel was sadly horrendous. The issues start with information for my flight to my hotel stay. I had to email and call SN for my final holiday details as my date for travelling were nearing. This filled me with anxiety. My hotel itinerary was different to my friends, I had room only booked with no breakfast meal, the lift to our hotel floor was not working properly, there was no one to help us with our luggage to our room on the 18th floor, we had no hot water to shower after travelling for hours, I could not close the blinds to my window, so was completely disposed to all to see me in my room, the room itself was not very clean. My friends in another room also experienced the same issues as well, and we spoke with other guests who were equally disappointed. We complained almost every day, and eventually spoke to the hotel director Bill Russell (that's the name he gave us) Bill informed us that a waiver of 1 nights stay would be returned to us as soon as SN travel were contacted and informed. Sad to say this was my first time using SN and will be the last. DO NOT GO TO THE MANHATTAN AT TIMES SQUARE HOTEL!!! This place needs to be completely refurbished. We await to find out if we will have further contact with SN Travel & The Manhattan.
